The Syrian Arabic Community in New Zealand was established in 2010 by Mr. M.Kado Tarkmani and a group of dedicated members of the Syrian diaspora, with the aim of helping newly arrived Syrians settle and thrive in their new home. From the beginning, the Community has worked to strengthen social bonds, preserve Syrian identity and culture, and promote positive integration within New Zealand’s diverse society.

The Community was officially recognized as a representative body for Syrians through its registration under the Incorporated Societies Act 1908, with an official update in 2022. Today, the Syrian Arabic Community continues to act as a vital bridge between Syrians and wider New Zealand society, offering cultural, educational, and social support programs that serve people of all ages and backgrounds.
